Can I get factoring with a brand-new MC number?
Yes. OTR says you can apply before your authority is active, QP sells a new-authority setup service, Porter has a New Authority Factoring program, and Apex has a startup program.
Do new authorities pay higher factoring rates?
Most companies do not publish new-authority rates. Porter publishes 1.5% for the first 60 days, and Outgo publishes 3% under $18K a month, which applies to most new carriers.
Is there a credit check?
Factoring mostly checks your broker’s credit, not yours. OTR says there is no credit check to start its application.
What documents do I need?
Usually your MC/DOT number, W-9, certificate of insurance, a voided check and a signed rate confirmation and bill of lading for each load. Confirm the list with each company.
Should I sign a 1-year contract as a new authority?
Only if the total cost is lower. Outgo, QP, Apex and Thunder state no long-term contract. Porter’s intro rate comes with a 1-year recourse contract.
